Sardine Run
The Run, is an annual natural spectacle every diver dreams being part of. The exact time and magnitude no-one can predict, but the sardines usually begin their migration along the coast of the Eastern Cape towards the end of May. This phenomenon can extend into July, moving up the south coast towards KwaZulu Natal. Once the shoals appear in the shallower waters and form so-called bait-balls, participation becomes spectacular! The sardines attract different species of sharks and other predators of the sea as well as dolphins, whales and flocks of marine birds, turning it into a feeding frenzy. Fantastic action, but potentially dangerous above and below water. Therefore, for your own safety, only fit and experienced photographers and divers are advised to participate.
